Do I have to give my domestic worker a contract?
Section 29 of the BCEA requires written particulars of employment for every employee, including domestic workers. A signed contract is the simplest way to comply.
Do I have to register for UIF?
Yes. Domestic employers must register with the UIF and pay 2% of the worker's pay each month — 1% from you and 1% from the worker.
How much notice must either side give?
Four weeks, where the domestic worker has been employed for longer than six months, in line with the BCEA notice rules for farm and domestic workers.
